Clark Fork

The Clark Fork starts near the middle of the state and flows west into Idaho.  Along the way the she takes on some of the most famous waters known to fly fishing.  Rock Creek, the Blackfoot, and the Bitterroot all combine to make up the largest river by volume in the state.

The mainstays here are West Slope Cutthroat and Rainbows averaging 14-18 inches, with a sprinkling of Brown and Bull trout. Consistent BWO, March Brown and Gray Drake hatches begin in March and last until runoff begins. The spring highlight is an amazing Skwala Stonefly hatch which can happen anytime in April. The Clark Fork drains a vast area and runoff can be huge, but this leads the way to some awesome terrestrial fishing through the summer and into fall.

September through October is our favorite time to fish the Clark Fork. BWO's are back with Mahogany Duns and Hekuba Mayflies.  Hopper fishing can still be outstanding as well. And don’t forget your streamers!
